Well Done Superheroes!
Last year our fantastic Year 2 children took part in a national creative writing competition, in which they had to write their own superhero stories.
These children have now moved on to the Junior School, but we have just heard that our school has been awarded first prize!
The children's stories will be printed in a special book and the school has received £1000! We've not decided what to spend the money on yet (we know that School Council will have lots of ideas) but we know it will help us to make reading and writing even more fun at Brilliant Barwell Infant School!
On Friday 27th January the children enjoyed the chance to dance the night away at our first PSA disco.
The children had a fantastic time, thanks to volunteers who gave up their Friday night to help out. They would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to Mrs Hurst, Mrs Blackwell and all the other helpers - including our very own governor, DJ Ed!
You can see more photographs of this event on the 'Whole School Gallery' page.
On Monday 28th November our children were thrilled to discover that, like most of the village centre, we have been "Yarn Bombed!" After the huge success of their summer yarn bombing, our local community group of knitters have struck again; brightening our surroundings and raising smiles as only they can!
We would like to extend a BIG THANK YOU to all of the 'top secret' knitters and organisers. It was lovely to see all of our children admiring the knitting and chatting about their favourite designs - and it's certainly got us in the festive mood!
We are VERY proud to announce that Mrs Stokes has won the national title of "Lollipopper of the Year!". Mrs Stokes, known throughout our village for her big heart (and her pink hair), was nominated for the award by one of our parents and received the full support of our children, families and staff.
Today, Alison Hammond and her TV crew surprised Mrs Stokes during her morning crossing duty to break the good news; and Mrs Stokes received a further surprise when the whole school gathered together to congratulate her when she arrived for her lunchtime supervisor duty.
We would all like to say a BIG well done to Mrs Stokes, and thank her for always doing such a wonderful job to keep our children and families safe. She's an important part of our Brilliant Barwell Family, and a super example to our children!
This term our new PSA held their first event - Chocolate Bingo!
The event was a huge success - so much so that we had to open extra classrooms to accomodate all of the people who came! It was a great chance for our families to get together, have fun and raise some funds for the school.
The evening raised £300 which will go towards providing extra opportunites and resources for the children.
We would like to give a BIG thank you and congratulations to Sarah Blackwell and Hannah Hurst for suggesting and overseeing the event, and for all the other friends and staff who helped out!
